Scotland Tour

Updated: Apr 13

In the Land of Castles, Single Malts and Braveheart. Flying to Scotland we used Glasgow with a connection in Frankfurt. Non-stop flights from the US are available via Edinburgh. The left side driving is always challenging at first but you get used to it. To discover Glasgow, we did the hop on hop off tour and began our road trip. Our first stop was The National Wallace Monument to dive into the History of William Wallace also known by the Movie 'Braveheart' which loosely focuses on Wallace life. A nice short walk up to the hill with the castle style memorial will reward you with magnificent views of the surroundings and the Battlegrounds of Falkirk.

There are many castles but we visited the once we expected to be off the main roads and not crowded. c is in the middle of the Highlands in Cairngorms NP. The castle surroundings invite you to a picnic or walk around. The castle itself you can explore on your own.

One of the oldest castles is Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness, but as we did see 15 busses in the parking lot and we turned around and decided to discover the mysterious lake by ourself. We found a pleasant hotel by the Lake and took tours from there.

Things you should not miss in Scotland, which I call 'The different UK', is to visit a distillery including tastings, walk in the Highlands and visit the shores in the north.
