Traveling Solo, But Never Alone: My Client’s Experience on the Globus Scottish Highland Fling Small Group

Did you know that nearly 30% of travelers now choose to travel solo, yet many still worry about feeling isolated along the way? That concern is exactly what one of my clients had before embarking on Globus’s Scottish Highland Fling tour, and what she discovered completely changed her perspective on solo travel.
For many travelers, especially those venturing overseas, the idea of planning every detail independently can feel overwhelming. Flights, hotels, transportation, sightseeing, and navigating unfamiliar places all add complexity to a trip. Because of this, my client found that traveling with Globus removed much of that stress while still allowing for personal freedom and authentic experiences.

With those logistics handled, she was able to focus more on connecting with others. Although she traveled solo, she was never truly alone. On the very first evening, she connected with a couple and another solo traveler. Those friendships quickly developed into a small travel group that spent much of the journey together.
On this departure, there were one to three solo travelers throughout the trip, making it easy to find companions while still enjoying the independence of solo travel. As she became more familiar with the group, she also gained a better sense of its overall dynamic.
The group originally consisted of 24 travelers, although two had to leave on the first day because of a family emergency (I always recommend travel insurance just for this possability). Another traveler was frequently absent due to health concerns, leaving a core group of about 22 participants. Interestingly, my client and the other solo traveler were among the youngest guests, both in their mid-50s, while most travelers were in their 60s and 70s.
Beyond the group itself, the accommodations played a role in shaping the experience. The hotels were generally good, though not perfect. Several featured charming Victorian-era architecture complete with creaky floors and old-world character. One property fell below expectations, but overall accommodations were comfortable. Air conditioning was available in larger cities, although some smaller towns did not offer it, which is common throughout parts of the United Kingdom.

In addition to lodging, dining proved to be another highlight of the journey. Food was another pleasant surprise. Included hotel meals typically featured three-course dinners with several choices for each course. While the hotel dining was perfectly adequate, local restaurants often stole the show. One standout meal was a traditional fish and chips dinner at a local restaurant, which became one of the trip’s favorite memories.
Equally important to the overall experience was the guidance provided throughout the trip. A major highlight was the tour director. He met my client at the airport and personally accompanied her on the coach transfer when delayed flights left them as the only passengers arriving at that time. Having worked with Globus since 2019, the tour director combined professionalism with personality.

Local guides throughout Scotland were knowledgeable and informative, although some moved through information a little too quickly. All of these elements contributed to what my client ultimately saw as strong overall value. One of the biggest takeaways was value.
My client felt the overall cost was comparable to what she would have spent planning an international trip independently. The difference was convenience. Airport transfers, hotel check-ins, transportation, and daily logistics were handled for her. The comfortable motor coach and professional driver added another layer of ease, even if the mandatory rest stops occasionally felt unnecessary. Those breaks, however, are required for driver safety and legal compliance.
Taking everything into account, the experience offered a well-balanced approach to travel. For travelers considering Scotland, Europe, or other international destinations, Globus guided tours offer a compelling blend of independence, companionship, and convenience. According to my client, "If you’ve been curious about solo travel or traveling with a partner, but have hesitant to take the leap, a guided experience by Globus may be the perfect way to start, giving you the confidence to explore the world on your own terms while still feeling supported every step of the journey."
